Every year, thousands of people worldwide sign up to participate in Veganuary — the world’s largest vegan movement, inspiring people to try a vegan diet in January and throughout the rest of the year.

But why go vegan? Especially when you live on the only planet that’s got cheese?

What convinced me personally was that it’s no longer contemporary to eat animal products.

My reasons to go vegan:

  • I am one of 7.8 billion people that live on this planet.

Coronavirus is changing how we work. Companies globally — such as Pinterest in San Francisco — are cancelling their leases and looking for smaller spaces. With the increasing popularity of “work-from-home” (WFH) policies, companies are reconsidering whether they need to offer every employee a fixed desk. Office managers are suddenly tasked with downsizing offices while also making them COVID-19-compliant.

We’ve all heard over the years how working from home not only boosts people’s productivity but also helps save money. According to a study by Stanford University, WFH employees experience an incredible boost…

I wrote this article after visiting one of Jim’s famous Sunday suppers. It’s from a collection of stories on food events organized by people who care about their communities. I’m publishing it here today as a memory of Jim, a wonderful man whose made so many lives of people so much more memorable. Rest in peace.

Every Sunday at 8 pm since the late seventies on a dreamy Parisian street, the door at a backyard maisonette in the 14th district flies open every couple of minutes. At peak times, every couple of seconds. The warm light shines through the…

As a freelancer, I get around a lot and I feel very fortunate to be able to see how sustainability shows up in the workspace. It’s sometimes shocking to see how even the most sustainably-minded businesses don’t have the simplest sustainability practices in place.

Not long ago, I got offered tea in a single-use cup by a so-called environmentally conscious startup.

I feel we can all do better.

In my opinion, it’s the office managers who have a great power to make our workspaces more sustainable.

And so I sometimes wonder why more office managers don’t apply their power of…

Being a freelancer comes with many rewards and many challenges. One of the most challenging things about freelancing is finding new work.

It’s the nature of freelancing that you work on projects for a limited amount of time. Even if you usually work with retainer clients, you most likely need multiple clients to make a full-time income and to be able to put money aside for retirement.

In this article, (that you can also watch on Skillshare if you prefer video), I’ll discuss some general strategies to finding new clients and will also share some stories about how I got…

Since we’re all stuck at home and most likely cooking several times a day, it’s probably a challenge to cook something exciting. How can you make varied meals and not feel like you’re eating the same thing all the time?

If you’re like me, you might get overwhelmed with cookbooks and don’t necessarily enjoy following recipes all the time, just trying to make a meal taste nice.

I’ve been planning to write this article for a while, but my original plan was to explain how I fill my lunchbox. For more than a year, I’ve been getting up every morning…

When you’re a creative, it’s likely you have many ideas for projects. I’m definitely guilty of keeping a backlog of ideas and projects I want to do in a drawer but have never actually finished or even started. But there are also a number of projects I’ve managed to finish, publish, and get a lot of great feedback on.

I’ve published three books to help creative freelancers combat the day-to-day craziness of freelance life. These books have been featured on Girlboss, 99U, Creative Boom, Design Taxi, and others, and have led to the opportunity to give a TEDx talk.

As…

I’ve always traveled a lot for work. It might be less now that I have a dog, but I still travel a lot compared to most people.

What I’ve learned, however, is that, if you ever want to impress a stewardess, pull out your own coffee cup and ask them to pour your drink in that.

Sophia Hoffmann, my favorite chef, once said that bringing her own cutlery, her own plate, and her own coffee cup might be a small hassle for her. Yet every time she pulls it out, it might impact the people who see her do so…

In my last article, I talked about how I managed to switch to a vegan diet. Most of all, I talked about how I could have become a vegan in 2011, but for some reason, it didn’t cross my mind as an option.

Very often, what we do and feel ready to do has to do with what we see people around us doing and consider normal. Questioning my habits in the bathroom started with an Instagram story that Alex Linotner posted a couple of years ago.

It was a “before and after picture” of her bathtub shelf. “Before,” she…

Changing one’s habits is exceptionally hard. It’s so hard it took me several years to even write this series of articles. On one hand, it took years of research. On the other hand, I needed to establish strategies to make the changes I’ve implemented feel easy.

Generally, I’d say I’m someone who’s always cared about sustainability. In theory, anyway. In practice, “buying organic products” and “recycling” made me believe I was someone who cared about sustainability. Yet, looking at it from today’s perspective, this was just the very beginning of becoming a person who cares about sustainability.

For this series…
